A man shot dead in north Belfast had been warned to leave Northern Ireland by dissident republicans, it has emerged.
Danny McKay, 36, was shot at least six times by two gunmen outside shops near his home in the Longsland area on Thursday night .
A Volkswagen Bora car used by the killers had been hijacked in the nationalist New Lodge Road area earlier, and was found burnt-out in the Lower Falls district of west Belfast.
It is believed the terror group Óglaigh na hÉireann had issued a death threat against McKay several days ago. Sinn Féin and the Alliance both condemned the shooting.
Less than two hours after the shooting, dissident republicans threw a pipe bomb at a passing police patrol in the west of the city. No one was injured in the blast on the Poleglass estate but 20 families had to be evacuated from their homes as army officers carried out a follow-up operation.
